By car: Click here for Google Map. Take N14 towards Leidschendam. After going through a tunnel (or 2), turn Left on Noordsingel. Take a Right onto Dillenburgsingel and first Left onto Boslaan. Go about 100 meters and you’ll see the entrance to the back side of the Shell station on your left. When you get to this point, you’ll see our garage on the right (with two blue canoes in front). There’s parking for several cars. If the driveway is full, turn around and take the 1st left into the parking lot. Park and walk around to our green fence. Call (070) 317-5063 if you’re lost.

By public transport: It’s a 10-minute walk from the end point of Tram #2 or the Weikamp stop for Bus #45. Let us know if you’re coming by tram or bus and we’ll set trail to the start.

Hare Notes: The run leaves from behind the NATO building near a rifle range! Please come dressed as or carry your favourite weapon, from pop guns to satellites, lasers to tasers, and anything in between. We’ll head off into the dunes to search for weapons of mass distraction. We'll end back at the car park with snacks and refreshments. No need to bring anything but the usual good sense of humor. There will be hidden prizes for children in the dunes along the run!!

Directions:

By public transport: You can get near the NATO building on Bus 23 from Den Haag-Laan van NOI train station or Bus 22 from Centraal Station. Go to www.9292ov.nl to find your best route to Oude Waalsdorperweg 61. Either route will include a walk, so check out the below map. Follow below directions once you get to roundabout.

By car: Click here for a map. The N440 is dug up for the new tunnel, but you can still enter Oude Waalsdorperweg. As you head away from Van Alkemadalan, take the funky Left-Right turn into the N440 to head north, and then take the exit immediately after the temporary roundabout into the NATO zone (the start of Oude Waalsdorperweg). Turn Left at the fork, then make your way around the back of the NATO building. Look for the public car park on your Left at the end of the road before you hit the dunes. Look for hare’s blue Honda Shuttle.

By public transport: Take train to Rijswijk Station. Exit station at Sir Winston Churchill Laan and walk SE past the library and the Halve Maan pub to Lange Kleiweg. Walk past the Shell building (keeping it on your left) and pass over the A4 via the road bridge. The run site is at the car park on the left after the bridge. From station to run site is about 600m.

By car: Exit A4 at junction 9/10 Plaspoelpolder. From Amsterdam direction, bear right at the lights at the end of the off-ramp. From Rotterdam, you will pass round a 270-degree loop and pass ahead through the lights. At the next set of lights turn left onto Visseringlaan. Drive to the end of Visseringlaan passing through one set of lights. Turn left onto Lange Kleiweg and pass over the A4. The run site is at the car park immediately after the bridge and opposite the Event Plaza.

Getting Spacey in Voorburg...

It was a beautiful day when we gathered at the Tristram & Camilla's house in Voorburg. There was a variety of creative costumes in keeping with the space theme, although you can hardly tell from this photo. We enjoyed running through much of Voorburg's greenspace, the historic downtown, several parks and a petting zoo. Luckily our hare used unique spaceship marks, because we stumbled upon sawdust marks from the adult Hague Hash House Harriers but easily stayed on the correct trail. Thanks to these first time hares for doing such a great job.

Hare Notes: On 7 October 1959 the USSR Space Probe Luna 3 returned the first image of the dark side of the moon ('hey, it's all black!') so the theme had to be Space - get your sticky backed plastic out, any loo rolls you can lay your hands on, be creative, and prepare to blast off on Sunday for a Space Run Down-down's warning to those with no space theme attire, putting your shoes on backwards and generally not humouring the hare. Awards for - best URANUS joke [example: I didn't think URANUS was the one with a big red spot.] Also, it is an urban environment, so we will have to cross roads.

By public transport: Stop train from Den Haag Centraal Station to NS Station Voorburg and then a 10 minute walk through Voorburg's Herenstraat.

By car: Head to Voorburg. From there, get onto the Parkweg in Voorburg (note the Parkweg has a central barrier, so if you find you can't turn left into our road, carry on to the next gap and do a u-turn). From there it is easy, and Groen van Prinstererlaan runs between Parkweg and Oosteinde. [Confusingly, Parkweg becomes Ooosteinde at the Northern end). Plenty of free parking on our street.

Hare Notes: This will be a true shiggy run. While the terrain is flat (of course), we will run through trees, mud, rivers and bushes. Would be a good idea to wear old shoes and bring a clean pair for the end. This hash will not include a BBQ, so we’ll be on our own to find dinner nearby.

An Afternoon of Discovery in Leiden...

We discovered several things at The Rembrandt Hash in Leiden:

* Hash families like a later start--we had a great turn out for our first afternoon hash, so we'll be sticking with the later start in the future

* An urban trail can lead to adventure--many of us enjoyed the street entertainment during the Rembrandt Festival

* Catching the hare in action is messy for the hare, but fun for the kids

* Cheap beer next to a park makes everyone happy!

What: DTH3 #13 – Rembrandt’s Birthday in Leiden

Hare Notes: See if you can catch the hare on a special “live lay” hash trail through the historic town of Leiden on Rembrandt’s 401^st birthday. You’ll want to bring your camera as this hash will take you on a unique tour of one of Holland's best kept secrets. This family trail will feature special “adult only” checks where the kids have to wait for the adults to solve the trail, giving the fast runners an opportunity to catch the hare in action. After the hash, we can pick a café for an early dinner.

By public transport: This is a great opportunity to take the kids on a train ride (r/t for adults is €5.10 from Den Haag; rail runners for kids under 12 are just €2.00). From Den Haag Centraal Station, take the stop train towards Leiden at 14:08 on spoor 10. Get off at Leiden Centraal, the 5th stop at 14:28. Exit the station near La Place (if you see the hospital, turn around and go out the opposite doors) and look for us near the statue. Bus #43 from Wassenaar arrives at 14:10; to check pick-up times near your house, go to www.9292ov.nl. There are lockers available at the station if you need one.

By car: Parking is limited in Leiden, but there is free parking at train stations in Mariahoeve, Voorschoten and De Vink. For driving directions to the station, click here.

Mother Nature Cooperated!

It took two tries, but DTH3 #12 finally happened and it didn't rain until we were back to the hares' house and safely under patio umbrellas. This trail featured Comes Too Soon's first live lay (can I say that about my 9-year-old?), a beer break at a playground and an impromptu stop at a zip line over a pond. The best part was undoubtedly when Opee fired up his new outdoor contraption for making poffertjes, which is shown here. A good time was had by all!

Where: De Vink Train Station in Leiden

What to Bring: If the weather is nice, bring along bathing suits, water shoes and towels for swimming and canoeing in the river. Also bring something to share (salad, dessert or appetizer) and grillables for your family.

By car: This is in the Stevenshof area of Leiden which is between Wassenaar and Leiden Centrum. Take the A44 to Exit #9 Leiden-Zuid. Take an immediate Right off the ramp and then another immediate Right onto Stevenshofdreef (if you go over a bridge, you missed it). At the traffic circle, go Right onto Dobbedreef . Just up ahead you’ll see a parking lot on the Left for the train station. Check out:

Father's Day Hash - Rescheduled

While two dads and their two kids were willing to brave the rain on Father's Day, we decided to postpone the hash and go to our house for homemade waffles instead. So, you have a 2nd chance to join us for a hash this month. Here's hoping Mother Nature is more cooperative this time!

DTH3 #11 - Small, but Great

While we had our smallest turnout yet, that didn't stop us from having a great time at the Mother's Day Hash in Marlot. Mother Nature shined down on us and the weather was clear for a beautiful run into Clingendaal for a beer break at the playground and a wander through the Japanese gardens. We also enjoyed our impromptu stop to watch some dogs practicing an obstacle course.

Thanks to Just Sherri (we held off naming her and two of her kids until we have a larger crowd) and JusTits for doing such a great job.
